De Facto explores the realm of unrecognized states, micronations and curious border zones. An evening with talks, art and film. We will interview historian Thomas von der Dunk who wrote a book about the contested region of South Tirol. What happens to a community when identity and nationality do not match? Film maker Ineke Smits will tell us about Abkhazia, a de facto state in the Caucasus, and show us some fragments of her documentary Little Man, Time and the Troubadour. Is there really a micronation within the Dutch borders? Jorie Horsthuis will take us to the founders of EuroStaete. And what about the kalashnikov on Cabinda’s coin? Floor Koomen goes into the details. Last but not least: a quiz by Suzanne Hendriks.
De Facto is a project of graphic designer Floor Koomen and journalist Jorie Horsthuis.
