"100% Cottone" is Mauro Cottone’s debut project as a band leader. It is a quartet formed by X. Torres on piano/synths, T. Semey on guitar, J. Peet on drums and M. Cottone on bass.
Mauro graduated in the Amsterdam conservatory, and he is an established player in the Dutch and Italian jazz scene. He recorded with his band a live video session and also an album that is going be released with Zennez Records (1st single August 25, 2nd on September 22 and album on Oct 20).
100% Cottone is a crossover instrumental project, where jazz improvisation is mixed with elements of pop music, indie rock and hip hop grooves.
The compositions remind the sound of the Bad Plus, but also the latest works of bass player and producer Petter Eldh. Mauro’s voice on the double bass, inspired by the melodic lines of Charlie Haden and the rhythmical approach of Larry Grenadier, finds a protagonist role in many of the compositions.
