Roode Bioscoop Sessies 6.0 | Trio Tensegrity

Trio Tensegrity is a modern jazz ensemble based in Utrecht, comprised of Flery Vlachodimou (piano), Arda Yeşiltepe (drums) and Giannis Vakaloudis (bass). Their music is influenced by the traditional music of the members’ countries of origin (Greece and Turkey) and also by northern-european jazz bands and the middle-eastern/jazz tradition. The diverse nature of the trio’s sound is reflected in its name.

Tensegrity is a design principle that applies when a discontinuous set of compression elements is opposed and balanced by a continuous tensile force, creating an internal prestress that stabilizes the structure. Their experimentation with rhythmic and tonal materials, the lyrical, yet aggressive expression and the respect to western forms with the simultaneous roughness of Mediterranean music work together in a non-homogenous but harmonious mixture, resulting in the trio’s unique sound. They have appeared live in Tivoli Vredenburg, Marnixzaal (DUMS), ‘t Oude Pothuys, Touchstone Atelier.
