Op 28 april presenteert BIMHUIS Records Ground Wire van Hristo Goleminov. Het album is het resultaat van Hristo’s onderzoek naar esthetiek en compositietechnieken van 17e en 18e eeuwse klassieke muziek uit Europa.

De klassiek geschoolde Hristo Goleminov trok van Portugal naar Amsterdam om jazz te studeren. Aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam onderzocht Goleminov hoe hij barokmuziek kon gebruiken als uitgangspunt voor jazz. In BIMHUIS Productions bouwde hij zijn onderzoek uit tot live repertoire en studioalbum. Goleminov raakte gefascineerd door contrapunt: een compositietechniek met een focus op de onderlinge onafhankelijkheid van instrumenten, zonder samenhang te verliezen. Toen hij de boeken sloot nodigde hij zijn octet uit te improviseren op basis van zijn composities. “Een democratisch creatief proces”, aldus Goleminov. Het resultaat is het duizelingwekkende Ground Wire.

The classically trained saxophonist Hristo Goleminov moved from Portugal to Amsterdam to study jazz. At the Conservatory of Amsterdam, Goleminov researched how he could employ baroque music as a model for jazz composition. At BIMHUIS Productions, he expanded his research into a live repertoire and studio album. Goleminov became fascinated by counterpoint: a compositional technique with a focus on the mutual independence of musical voices, without losing cohesion.
