Dovetail

In carpentry, a dovetail joint uses trapezoidal cuts to affix two pieces of wood at a 90-degree angle. The “tails” of one piece interlock with the “pins” of the other, creating an interlocking joint that strongly resists pulling apart.

Taking inspiration from this concept, the three members of Amsterdam-based band Dovetail finely join rhythmic and melodic concepts to create a cohesive fastening that is stronger than the sum of its parts. Dovetail’s music is shaped by the idea of illusion and perception: grooves that feel familiar, yet shift beneath your feet; patterns that make sense only through surrendering to them.

Drawing inspiration from West African folk traditions, minimal classical music, and avant-garde techno, Dovetail’s throughcomposed set evokes a sound that feels more visceral than cerebral, like a well executed DJ set.
