DWARS30A @ De Roode Bioscoop presents: LIVE Jacob Dwyer + Phantom Wizard
Join us for an evening of sound exploration, opened by our house poet Rende, followed by two inspiring artists whose performances invite the audience into a collective listening experience within the space of De Roode Bioscoop.
Jacob Dwyer - ‘Tom’s House’
Jacob Dwyer is a writer and artist who works with collected sound/field recordings, audio and writing. His work centres around personal encounters that could equally be seen as fables or heresy.
For this event Jacob Dwyer will present his most recent audio-drama; ‘Tom’s House’:
We listen to the meanderings of someone who’s returned home for the first time in 15 years. Walking up Haddon Drive he spots the house of an old friend, Tom. The front door is open, so he goes inside. Wandering around the empty Tudor cottage - making cups of tea, rearranging CD collections and zoning in on the minutiae of domestic space - he ruminates on ideas of emotional intimacy, friendship and grief.
Phantom Wizard - Composer
Phantom Wizard is a composer and multidisciplinary artist whose work dissolves boundaries and reimagines traditions. Rooted in decolonial philosophy and self-taught as a multi-instrumentalist, Phantom Wizard’s artistry developed outside traditional institutions.
Phantom Wizard’s sound draws from a rich tapestry of influences, weaving together textures of nature with ambient, free jazz, minimal, electronic, and the vibrant sonic palette of the Caribbean, offering a fresh perspective in contemporary music.
Rende Arends – Huisdichter
Rende Arends is an artist whose practice moves across, writing, poetry, painting and music. Since the founding of DWARS30A, she has opened many DWARS events with short readings of her work, becoming DWARS’s ‘huisdichter’ (house poet).
