Joost Lijbaart is a versatile drummer, percussionist, composer, improvisor, and educator from Amsterdam. He began playing drums at the age of 7 under the tutelage of his father, Piet Lijbaart. Joost went on to graduate with honors from the Hilversum Conservatory in 1991, where he studied with renowned percussionists including Cees Kranenburg, Marcel Serierse, Ali Un D'Aye Rose, and Victor OskamJoost has performed classical percussion music by Iannis Xenakis, John Cage, and Steve Reich and collaborated on several projects with Theo Loevendie and Louis Andriessen.He has an intense collaboration with pianist Wolfert Brederode, with whom he performs as a duo, in the group Batik, in the quartet of saxophonist Yuri Honing, and in the project "Ruins and Remains" which was released on ECM records in 2022.In 2015, Joost formed the group Under The Surface with vocalist Sanne Rambags and guitarist Bram Stadhouders. The group focuses on fully improvised concerts and has performed in 30 countries all over the world. Their latest release, "Miin Triuwa," features Sanne Rambags singing in Old Dutch.Joost's diverse musical interests span jazz, pop, rock, and traditions of West Africa, Northern India, and the Middle East. He is an experienced teacher and regularly gives guest lectures and classes at conservatories around the world, in addition to teaching at the conservatories in Amsterdam, Groningen, and Tilburg.
Koen Boeijinga is a Dutch saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and improviser, known for his dynamic and creative way of playing. Drawing from his unique collection of instruments - including woodwinds, drums, percussions and self-made inventions - he is able to create rich and distinctive palettes of sounds, in which ancient and contemporary colours blend. Koen is drawn to an instinctive way of music making. He seeks to immersive both himself and audience through sound, using hypnotic drones, repetitive rhythms and free improvising as his tools. Surrendering to the moment and it's flow lie at the core of his creating.
Galya Sky is a Lithuanian cellist, dedicating herself to explore and empower the inner world of a human through music. Eagerly seeking to build a deep connection with the outside world - Galya chooses dreamy improvised melodies, warm harmonies and intense riffs as her musical language, with strong influence of Baltic folk and heavy genres.By incorporating effect pedals and live electronics, she pushes the limits of playing techniques and the role of cello in music. Galya Sky is committed to use music as a tool to connect, encourage, empower and leave a lasting impact.
