Orbits is an Amsterdam-based collective focused on developing and showcasing the city’s improvised music scene, having organized many events in the last 2 years.
The Fall Series – now in its 2nd yearly edition – brings together a diverse selection of adventurous music in monthly events (October, November, December) to celebrate the windy and cloudy season.
The December edition brings 3 distinctive and highly personal musical worlds into the cosy confines of De Roode Bioscoop: Omer Govreen + Michael Vatcher, Līva Dumpe (solo), and Areia.
Omer Govreen + Michael Vatcher
Omer Govreen is one of Amsterdam’s most in-demand bass players, known for his work with musicians such as Michael Moore and Ziv Taubenfeld.
For this event he is joined by impro veteran Michael Vatcher, for a first-ever duo set. Long-time listeners of either of them will know to expect a wide-open approach to creative music making, some turbulence, and maybe a few songs.
Omer Govreen - double bass
Michael Vatcher - drums
Līva Dumpe (solo)
Līva steps into a solo setting, offering a glimpse of her music in its most original form, as it first came to life at the piano.
Recurring themes & motifs in her music include Latvian folk traditions and superstitions, analysis of past events, the expansion of voice possibilities, nature and its elements, and humour.
Līva Dumpe - voice and piano
Areia
Areia will perform music from their new album, which will be recorded the week after. Since their last album, the group has been exploring further into instrumentation, improvisation, form and character. New compositions showcase what has been found and where to aim further.
Antonio Moreno - trumpet
Hristo Goleminov - tenor saxophone
Adrian Moncada - piano
Siebren Smink - guitar and compositions
