Quite Bat

Quite Bat’ is an Amsterdam based performance collective, with the 7 members; Jet van Boekel, Laura Eager, Greta Galiauskaitė , Ella van der Meer, Hannah Zeeman, Jorn Vlaanderen, and Yi Wang. Starting out in 2021, during their academic studies at The Gerrit Rietveld Academie (with no Performance stream) they decided to create one. All members are from diverse backgrounds in artistic disciplines, but none are trained actors or performers. Over the past 2 years they have met every Tuesday, to invent, research and improvise with movement, every so often inviting Dancers, Theatre directors and Actors to give workshops.

“We chose purposefully to play with the notion of ‘Bad acting’, since we are ‘Not actors’ , which is why sometimes we don’t act at all. We play with the extremes of being ‘over the top’ and ‘underwhelming’ simultaneously. Instinctual choices, awkward uncertainties, and unscripted moments are important to us.” With every show tasks such as lighting, sound, costumes, scenography, films, productions, posters and merchandise are redistributed among the members, resulting in shows that are never the same.
