Paper Songs is a musical collective consisting of four musicians who took the poems of the American poet Walt Whitman as the starting point for new compositions. The instrumentation consists of (multi-part) vocals, piano, double bass, bass guitar, drums, Rhodes, and synth bass. Although the poetry dates from the 19th century, with our contemporary sound we demonstrate that Whitman has lost none of his relevance in terms of themes and language.
Various influences and musical styles are reflected in Paper Songs' compositions. Starting from jazz, the musicians are also inspired by soul, pop, and folk music, and they sing about nature, humanity, and democratic society using Whitman's words.
