The first edition of First Kiss!

First Kiss is a concert series that presents duets that are playing together for the first time. Musicians (in the broadest sense of the work) prepare a set with someone they’ve never played with before to try something new.

For the first edition we’ll be hosting:

Boris de Klerk & dimb1t
Lyckle de Jong, Luca Bryssinck & Rende Arends

Lyckle de Jong, Luca Bryssinck & Rende Arends perform Ain’t Scat

Two performers move through the 99 sounds of the Kaossilator (2007), recreating various presets using only their voices. Luca Bryssinck comes from theatre; Rende Arends is a painter. Both work with forms of imitation, yet neither have experience imitating machines imitating. Ain’t Scat displays the sound of trying rather than resemblance since the source (the machine) is not audible for the audience. A third performer, Lyckle de Jong, accompanies the singers on a Casio SK-1 (1986) whose history is inseparable from imitation through its early sampling function.

dimb1t & boris de klerk

Drawing from very different sonic palets but with an (extremely) similar upbringing dimb1t & boris de klerk play an improvised set using rompler, samplers & tabletop guitar. Gentle feedback and whispered dialogue mix with the plastic orchestra harbored in an old Casio SK-88. The 2nd of August will be there first time playing together, but hopefully not their last.
